What is silvervine?

Silvervine (matatabi) is a climbing vine from the mountains of Japan and China. The dried sticks trigger a happy rolling, rubbing, play response in most cats. In a published study of 100 cats, about 1 in 3 ignored catnip, and roughly 3 in 4 of those catnip-indifferent cats still responded to silver vine (Bol et al., 2017).

Is silvervine safe?

Silvervine is a natural plant material that cats have enjoyed for centuries in Japan. Supervise play, take a stick away once it becomes heavily frayed, and offer it to adult cats and kittens over 8 months. If your cat has health issues, check with your veterinarian first.

How do I use the Calm Mat?

Spread a thin layer of a soft treat (churu, plain yogurt, wet food, pate) over the surface and let your cat lick it clean. For a longer session, load it and freeze it. It is dishwasher safe.
